What is Forest School ?
Forest School is an inspirational process that offers children and young people opportunities to achieve, develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland environment.
So what will my child gain from Forest School?
Children who participate develop motivation to
- Learn new skills
- Co-operate with others
- Problem solve
- Take risks with a controlled environment
- Become more confident
- Develop physical skills
- Become more self-aware and gain positive self esteem
- Develop empathy
- Become independent
All of these skills are valuable to your child!
As well as the many resources used in Forest School the children will be encouraged to use tools. These being fixed blade knives, bow saws and hand drills. The Forest School Leader is trained to teach the safe use of all tools. The children will cook on an open campfire. Gathering around a campfire this way, is part of everyone’s history and culture and through Forest School we embrace this social unity of people coming together. They will also enjoy building dens, climbing trees, cooking in the mud kitchen, bird watching, making dream catchers, mud monsters, bows and arrows, swords and any other activity their imaginations can conjure up—there have been performances with log drums, zip wires, treasure hunts, river creations, bridges and dam building!
